2nd Annual Westchester Charity Shoot Out Golf Tournament

Raises Money For Charities, Honors Fallen White Plains Firefighter Warren Ogburn.

Fire Chief Richard Lyman On Hand To Present Plaque To Family

White Plains, New York – Local business man and Charity Shoot Out organizer Larry Woodard never met Firefighter Warren Ogburn. but that didn’t stop him from having a strong desire to see the firefighter honored.

“I know firefighters who served with Warren and I was always struck by the fact that he was the only White Plains firefighter that has died in the line of duty. I wanted to help make sure we remember him properly with a permanent memorial”

So Woodard, President of a Manhattan-based advertising agency, developed the 16 Trees Project to plant 16 trees (one for each year since Warren’s death) at Maple Moor Golf Course during the 2nd Annual Westchester Charity Shoot Out.

The tournament was a success, raising money for the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless and The Thomas H. Slater Center. About 50 golfers weathered the 90 degree heat and the high humidity to play Maple Moor Golf Course, bid at a silent auction and meet celebrities like Former NFL Quarterback and Syracuse University standout Don McPherson.

The family of Warren Ogburn including his mother, sister, brother and son along with Fire Chief Richard Lyman all participated in a short ceremony. A bagpiper in traditional kilt led the small crowd to the site of the first tree. A prayer was said. The bagpipes played Amazing Grace and marched into the sunset while the family members each placed a shovel of dirt onto the tree roots.

The ceremony was followed by a Banquet at the course catered by Yvonne’s Sothern Cuisine of Pelham New York.
